Crew Descriptions!
Stage Manager- The stage manager is in charge of taking notes for the director, attending rehearsals, writing down blocking and providing assistance to the director. Stage managers also call all technical cues during the production.
Assistant Stage Manager- Assistant stage managers have the same pre-production responsibilities as a stage manager. During the production assistant stage managers are backstage helping deck crew with scene changes and actors with cues.
Lights and Sound- Lights and Sound is an area of technical theatre focusing on the management and efficiency of the audio and visual aspects of a show. In this crew, you will learn how to organize and apply mics, you will go up into the catwalk, you will interact with the fly system, hang lights, design color schemes, and find correct audios for any sound effect given to you. You will work with actors, directors, and team members in different board positions to fluently run the entire show.
Set-Set crew works with the directors and builds their visions for the set. Things the crew needs to make can differ from a ship to the outside of a house. Set crew is one the main parts of pre-production.
Paint- Paint is where you learn different techniques for painting and decorating the set for our shows. We bring the set pieces to life and give them detail to make them fit the look of the show!
Publicity- Publicity crew is all about getting people to see our shows! We are responsible for creating show posters, video advertisements and other fun ideas to get as many people in our seats as possible. Props- Props crew is in charge of acquiring any props needed for each production. Props crew can obtain these props by making them, borrowing them, pulling them or even buying them. Props crew also might work backstage to make a props table and make sure every prop is on the table and makes it into each scene needed.
Costumes- Costumes is part of the team responsible for the looks of the show with hair and makeup!! We design, plan out and pull pieces for the actors to wear onstage or sometimes completely start from scratch and make things. We conjure up whatever crazy artsy idea is in our minds and make it a reality!!
Hair and Makeup- In hair and makeup, there are two sides; planning and creating looks. On the planning side, we meet to take what the director's overall vison is and make it into a look. The creating part is doing the actors' makeup and hair for the show to make sure that they look amazing
Backstage Crews:
Deck crew- Deck crew is one of the backstage crews who are in charge of changing the scenes of the productions during showtime. Whenever you see a play or musical and there's a blackout between each scene, most of the time, there's people dressed in all black who are taking pieces of the set on or off, or just moving them around.
Dressers- During a production dressers are backstage and help actors with quick changes. Dressers also help the actors get ready for each show and make sure the costumes are put back in the correct place.
