playbill bios &
head shots

Congrats! You made the show! Rehearsals have been a blast and you have made a bunch of new friends...but then suddenly you're hit with the "don't forget your bios and head shots are due tomorrow at 5pm!" reminder and realize that you've never done either of those before. In fact, you're not even completely sure what they are.

Writing a bio and choosing a head shot for the Playbill can be a daunting task and the deadline can seem impossible to meet at times, but I promise you can do it. It's VERY important that you get both emailed on time so that the kind booster who is putting together the Playbill for our show can make sure you are in it and doesn't have to stress about hunting down a photo or making up a bio.

With that said, how do you do the whole "bio and head shot" thing?
I am glad you asked!

Bios:
Bios are typically a maximum of 350-400 characters and are always written in 3rd person (ex. John Smith is a sophomore at DV and joined TTC this year). It is what the audience reads about you in the Playbill that lets them have an insider-look at who the characters on stage are being played by. They can include anything from general information about you, your theatre experience, fun facts, or special thank you's.

The best way to understand is by looking at examples. Click the button below or take a look at old TTC Playbills.

Bio Examples
Head shots:
A head shot is just a nice picture of your head and shoulders. It does not need to be professionally done. Many are simply a picture taken by a smart phone and that works grate. While this is not professional, keep in mind that it should be a nice picture that is appropriate to put in the Playbill. This is not a selfie you are snapchatting to a friend. Also be aware that the picture you send in will be shrunk, cropped if necessary, and often printed in black and white.

If--for whatever reason--the head shot you sent in won't work, the person in charge of collecting them will ask that you send in a new picture and guide you in the right direction, no stress!
